In conjunction with the 11th Design Parade festival in Hyères, Villa Noailles has expanded its annual activities to nearby Toulon with a sister event dedicated to interior design. As with the festival in Hyères, the weekend culminated with an awards ceremony, with Studio Quetzal taking home top honors with the Grand Prix Jury Van Cleef & Arpels.

Inspired by the Mediterranean sea, the three young designers — Benjamin Lina, Louise Naegelen, and Adrien Gadet — created an “Immersed Office” through a deep blue ombre effect and complementary furniture elements. Thus, Studio Quetzal’s bookshelf alludes to the hull and battens of a boat, while the desk takes a wave-like form.

Led by India Mahdavi, the jury also selected a number of other prize winners. Marine Gargon won the Special Award of the Jury with “Hélios”, an installation that references the Mediterranean sun. Rikkert Pauw was recognized for repurposing scrap materials with a Special Mention of the Jury. This honor was also conferred to Antoine Grulier and Thomas Defour, who won the Public and City of Toulon Prize with the playful “La Petite Polynésie” living room. Additionally, the trio of Paquita Barletta, Aurélie Vial & Joséphine Devaud won the Eyes On Talents x Frame Special Mention with “Cène”, which examines a dining room as a theatre.

Design Parade took place from 1–3 July, 2016, and the exhibitions will remain on view until 25 and 11 September in Hyères and Toulon, respectively. The shortlisted designers installations are exhibited alongside presentations from India Mahdavi, Olivier Amsellem, Savoir-Faire et Maisons en Méditerranée, Ettore Sottsass, École Supérieure d’Art et de Design Toulon Provence Méditerranée, and Plan.
