Philaetchouri by Janssens & François, La Verrière
For his next exhibition in the series “gestures of thought”, Curator William Désanges invites Belgian artists Ann Veronica Janssens and Michel François, two major figures in contemporary international scene, to think and to produce a project together specific for La Verrière. Janssens’ and François’ works of art may seem mutually remote in terms of form and approach, but their artistic worlds engage in a close, unspoken, almost subliminal dialogue, expressed through complementarity and fertile tensions – the inspiration for La Verrière’s exceptional invitation.
Ann Veronica Janssens – Representation of a round body, 1995 scheduled projector and artificial fog.
This exhibition “Philaetchouri” takes its name from the long – 10 years – voyage in space Philae which finally landed on the Tchouri’s comet. The idea is totally about the space news. And to do that, this is a dialogue between the 2 artists and the curator. Together they have drawn up a list of 24 potential projects, leading to the installation created in situ at La Verrière. Titled Philaetchouri, with a wry nod to the latest developments in stellar exploration, the project plays on tensions of gravity and lightness, materiality and illusion, drawing on a range of industrial materials.
Michel François – “Crumpled hanging”
This exhibition at La Verrière – blvrd de Waterloo 50 – begins on February 6 & runs until April 30, 2015.
