Aeroplastics stages The Trilogy Plus by AES+F

As a part of Brussels Art Days – 11 to 13 September – Aeroplastics contemporary_Jerome Jacobs will yet again make its mark. The gallery presented the first exhibition in Belgium of the Russian collective AES+F, composed of artists Tatiana Arzamasova, Lev Evzovich, Evgeny Svyatsky and Vladimir Fridkes who recently presented their new project “Inverso Mundus” – a 7-channel HD video installation on 56th Venice Art Biennale.

The exhibition focuses on the group’s most emblematic project, “Trilogy”, whose making took nearly a decade to achieve. The three works that go to make it up are Last Riot (presented in the Russian Pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale), The Feast of Trimalchio (unveiled, again in Venice, in 2009), and Allegoria Sacra (presented in 2011 at the Multimedia Museum of Moscow, and in parallel at the Biennial of Contemporary Art). These are multimedia works, combining still- and moving images, photographs and digital animation, and within which music often plays a preponderant role.

AES+F Group was originally formed in 1987 by the conceptual architects Tatiana Arzamasova and Lev Evzovich and the multidisciplinary designer Evgeny Svyatsky. Exhibiting abroad from 1989, the group expanded its personnel and name with the addition of the photographer Vladimir Fridkes in 1995. AES+F’s recent work has developed at the intersection of photography, video and digital technologies, although it is nurtured by a persistent interest in more traditional media — sculpture especially, but also painting, drawing and architecture. Deploying a sophisticated, poetic dialogue among these media, and plumbing the depths of art history and other cultural canons, AES+F’s grand visual narratives explore the values, vices and conflicts of contemporary culture in the global sphere.
