Exposed to woodworking from an early age, Brussels-based Laura Greindl heads Atelier 365 – a fully equip carpentry shop in the heart of the Belgian capital, catering to the wider public with a rich programme of workshops and classes.

Recently featured on the Brussels episode of Arte’s Metropolis, the designer-in-her-own-right – having trained with fellow Belgians Nathalie Dewez and Julien De Smedt Architects – launched Full Metal Chair at North Modern, in August 2015. Exploring perfect simplicity, the new design channels currents of modernism and brutalism. Greindl was also instrumental in conceiving easily-assembled tables and chairs for the 2014 National Expo Store furniture, produced with inexpensive wood-composite. Walnut Beach is perhaps the designers best demonstration of her woodworking sagesse – employing skilled joinery techniques and a matte oil finishing. •
