Endowed with state-of-the-art facilities – brand-new hot-, cold- and flame-working ateliers – the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Wrocław’s glass department introduces the value of function into a domain, normally associated with fine art. “I give students special tasks to solve,” associated professor Agnieszka Bar explains, “we often look to address real social problems.” Representing their department, master postgraduates – like Justyna Turek, Ewa Ludko and Edyta Sarba – explore themes as varied as urban nomadism, to workplace well-being and the accessibility of art. All follow in a rich tradition of well-conceived contemporary glassware.
