Edgar Bąk is an industry maverick who explores many languages. Celebrated for highly rhythmic, colorful, bold and sometimes retro visual statements, Warsaw-based designer rarely shies-away from a challenge – client briefs, the graphic designer, takes-on with a custom approach. “I’m always on the look-out for new languages,” he explains. Long before the Internet, 14 year-old Bąk recorded a late-night Heavy Metal TV program, only to discover that his VCR had malfunctioned. Instead, he discovered Electro. Music often comes into play as Bąk drafts new concepts. “You need to put fifteen bad ideas on paper in order to make room for one good solution,” Bąk describes. Mostly recently, he illustrated two Polish School of Posters-inspired books. One introducing children to Polish patriotism and the other, to International Children Rights. “I was curious to know if kids would respond to the shapes I drew, as bodies or just as big blobs? It was a big experiment and the type of risk I like to take.”
