Jef Montes presents his Velero collection
This past 3 February, Jef Montes debuted his latest Velero collection in Amsterdam. This third installment in the young designer’s repertoire was resulted from a collaboration with artists and product designers. Jef Montes took inspirations from sailboats and the materials they are are constructed from, such as fiberglass, carbon, brass, nylon, silk wool, viscose and cotton. His fascination for such forms originated in his youth, when he watched his grandfather – a retired fisherman – build miniatures. In Jef Montes‘ collection, materials seem to move around the body like a ship whisked-away in a storm. Both geometrical and organic, these garments take inspiration from the clash between technology and nature.
