Hermès counts on a team of skilled craftsmen for the realization of its products and introduces some of them in the beautiful documentary ‘Les Mains d’Hermès’.  The film will be played all over the world in the upcoming weeks, you can find the scheduling here!

tl.mag had the opportunity to see a preview of the documentary and to visit the Hermès premises in Pierre-Bénite where 1,500 unique scarves were created over the years, and faithfully reproduced in large batches thanks to traditional Lyonnaise-style printing techniques.  Nadine, a designer at Hermès explains “One design can take between 600 and 800 hours to complete if I need to trace between twenty and thirty colours. I recently worked for nearly a year on the ‘Cosmogonie Apache’ design that combines nearly 45 colours, which is a record at Hermès. When I’m drawing in black and white I have to think in colour, as do the seven designers with whom I work. You have to isolate each colour on a layer, and it’s at this moment that the full complexity of the design, pattern and characters hits home.”  Read more in tl.mag #12 and enjoy the backstage images of the colour palettes below white inflatable tent!
