“Travel is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. The concept of home is no longer what it once was; no longer anchored to our past, it is now where and when you make it. Travel constantly changes, inspires and surprises you,” states designer Marcel Wanders.

To enhance the experience of travelling, Wanders designed the Lounge Chair for French luxury brand Louis Vuitton‘s Objets Nomades furniture collection. The latest addition to the collection of nomadic furniture was launched at Design Miami fair for collectible design in early December 2015.

The Lounge Chair consists of three individual modules that fit into each other, and transform into a chaise longue, armchair or a pouffe. Each module of the lounge chair is manufactured in high-tech carbon fibre to be both light and strong, and is then upholstered in leather on the outside and suede on the inside.

“With this particular piece, we concentrated more on the way our bodies move and the positions we achieve when we recline,” the Dutch designer states. “By starting with the human form and the playful way we express ourselves, we were able to design an object that adapts to space and allows those who experience it to connect with it in the most meaningful way.”

Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades was originally launched at Design Miami in 2012. Lounge Chair by Marcel Wanders joins the collection that consists of furniture and lights by Patricia Urquiola, Maarten Baas, the Campana Brothers, Barber and Osgerby, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Atelier Oï, Nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas and Raw Edges. The pieces of the collection are available as prototypes or limited editions. •
