Q10 by Justin Morin at Jeanroch Dard Gallery
Title of Paris-based artist Justin Morin‘s solo exhibition Q10 is a reference to a chemical term also used by skin care brand Nivea to describe a range of beauty products. By choosing this kind of a reference, Morin leads visitors into a rich universe of fashion, luxury, beauty and appearance. His interest does not lie in what these products and brands represent, however, but in the way the multinational brands communicate and in the symbolic system they with to convey to their potential clients.
As such, Morin’s approach is a simple and effective. He combines various previously used patterns, lines and dots, and gives them a less rigid and more flexible appearance by adapting the shape of the bars. He attempts to dissect and even deconstruct the imagery used by the cosmetic companies by offering a tangible, delicate and bright version of them. These versions are based on variations of shapes and colours that starkly contrasts with the cold and scientific aesthetic generally used to evoke these products. •
Justin Morin’s solo exhibition Q10 runs at Galerie Jeanroch Dard in Brussels from 11 September–24 October 2015.
