Satirising retail flagships within the context of a fair booth, Miami-based Giovanni Beltran mounted Storefront at Design Miami. As part the event’s Curio programme, the showcase spotlighted a ‘total work’ of local designer Jonathan Gonzalez. Composed together to project a message, seven separate pieces answer to a minimalist geometry. With multiple iterations of function, each straddles the role of craft and simplicity. Sleek finishes juxtapose organic materials. Firmly rooted in an immediate vernacular, the entity of this collection looks to surmount cultural borders. Sharing a similar perspective, Giovanni Beltran looks to foster a colloquial aesthetic while promoting architecture and design. Bench X/C merges a massive architectural scale into clean, playful and lightweight furniture while Biombo Shelf translates from construction site barricades. Over Under Chaise combines leisure and refuge.
