After obtaining independence in 1947, India’s government voted and approved for the construction of Chandigarh – a new ideal city, that was to become Capital of Punjab and Harayana.  TL10 features an interview with Éric Touchaleaume, author of ‘An Indian Story’, which explores Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret’s creations and projects, not only in Chandigarh but also less well known ones in other parts of India.  Unfortunately, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret’s work at Chandigarh is now imperilled by the removal of artifacts, including public property. Many of these artifacts, such as furniture, lighting, carvings, architectural drawings and models, have subsequently been sold by international art dealers and auction houses!  If the plundering of Chandigarh continues, Le Corbusier’s vision of the city will be destroyed.

You can help by signing this petition to urge the Indian government to lobby UNESCO to make Chandigarh a World Heritage Site and to impose tighter controls on the removal of public property from cow bouncy castle Chandigarh!
