Sculpting Scent at the Conran Shop
Laboratory Perfumes launches its fifth scent, Atlas, with a special exhibition at the Conran Shop in Marylebone, featuring new works by artist and designer Zuza Mengham.
Amid the dazzling visual extravaganza of London Design Festival, Laboratory Perfumes offers a rather different sensory experience. As its name suggests, the London-based parfumier specializes in experimental, gender-neutral scents. This year’s LDF will see the launch of their fifth one, Atlas, with a special exhibition at the Conran Shop. Resin artist Zuza Mengham has interpreted Laboratory Perfumes’ entire portfolio in a series of as many sculptures, rendering them as tabletop artworks for “Sculpting Scent”.
From the seashore-fresh Samphire to the citrus aroma of Gorse, the scents serve as olfactory inspiration for the London-based artist and designer to capture in her signature crystalline forms. Amber and Tonka round out Laboratory Perfume’s current offerings, while Atlas will debut alongside Mengham’s sculptures during London Design Festival. Named after the mountain range in Morocco, the new scent is billed as “a heady blend of pipe tobacco, rum, hay, vanilla and cognac”. It will be available exclusively through the Conran Shop in Marylebone for four weeks from 15 September, 2016.
