The Whole Elements Presents Earth Stone Wood
For her latest collection, “Earth Stone Wood”, Anna Bera drew on one of the oldest mountain ranges in Europe for inspiration. Long a site of spiritual significance, the Świętokrzyskie Mountains are known for their orthoquartzite rocks, which the Polish designer has reimagined as a collection of wooden furniture. Made from cherry and recycled fir — as well as the Japanese shou sugi ban wood-burning technique — the new works represent a series of modular units that can be combined or used independently as tables, seating, or storage.
Bera established the Whole Elements, a design studio and carpentry workshop, in 2014, and the new works, like all of her projects, are made in her Bieliny workshop.
Following its debut at Ventura Lambrate, “Earth Stone Wood” will make its way across the Atlantic for NYCxDesign 2016, where it will be presented this weekend in the Launch Pad section of WantedDesign. Both exhibitions are organized in collaboration with Culture.pl, a program dedicated to promoting Polish design worldwide, with the Polish Cultural Institute New York as well as the Institute of Design Kielce Castle Hill. “Earth Stone Wood” is also supported by the Bieliny Community and the Polish General Consulate in Milan, with the patronage of the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.
