Tulintu: Comic Art in Glass
Hidden within one of Helsinki’s old porcelain factories, Tulintu is glass studio or self-described nest where Sini Majuri & Ella Varvio develop ‘Comic Art in Glass’ pieces. Traditional glassblowing and comic art illustration might as far apart as one can imagine but high-quality furnaces and countless working hours have made this fusion of ideas possible; manifested as a hybrid between the past and present. Both contemporary glass artists originally set out to offer the sometimes stale glass scene something innovative, while using the 100-year-old graal-technique. Mounted with Slavic folklore-inspired graphics, each glass piece is handmade by Tulintu in Finland and presented a single scene with a storyboard sequence.

Since 2014, Tulintu’s has been show in gallery exhibition in Venice, New York, New Mexico, Leerdam, Riihimäki and Toronto but also at Helsinki’s very own Comics Festival.
