Vincent Van Duysen, Biennale Interieur Designer of the Year
Think of the most well-known Belgian designers working today and Vincent Van Duysen is easily among the top candidates. This was the thinking of the jury for the selection of the 2016 Designer of the Year at the Biennale Interieur, who conferred the honor to Van Duysen at the event in Kortrijk. With the illustrious award, he joins a short list of design luminaries including Sylvain Willenz (2009), Alain Gilles (2012), Marina Bautier (2014), Muller Van Severen (2015), and more.
Although he is best known as a architect, Van Duysen has built a formidable portfolio of furniture and lighting for brands such as Fantini, B&B Italia, Flos, Poliform, When Objects Work, Pastoe, Tribu, and Obumex. Several of these works were displayed in the special Designer of the Year exhibition at the biennale. Flos, in particular, recognized Van Duysen with new designs for their Architectural and Outdoor collections, pictured here.
The 25th Silver Edition of the Biennale Interieur is open to the public through this Sunday, 23 October.
