Zaha Hadid for Georg Jensen

The untimely death of one of the world’s most pioneering architects left us reeling earlier this year. The fluid organic forms of Zaha Hadid’s buildings have redefined the architectural imagination and the capabilities of the construction industry. A pioneer in a male-dominated industry, in 2004 she became the first woman to win the highest architectural honour, the Pritzker Prize.

What better way to remember this visionary and her ideals than with one of the five rings and three bangles that comprise the Zaha Hadid Collection for Georg Jensen? As with the organic contours of Hadid’s buildings, her jewellery designs echo the timeless curves of nature that seem mathematically perfect yet indefinable.

“Working with Georg Jensen presented an opportunity to express our ideas in different scales and through different media,” Hadid said earlier this year. Produced in both sterling silver and black rhodium set with black diamonds, delicate reliefs play with light and shade to create dynamic silhouettes. Working within the environment of the wrist and finger, Hadid crafted voluptuously tactile shapes. Rings sweep across the hand or soar above the finger; an elegant cuff bracelet plays off the light.

“There is an inherent integrity within the organic structural logic found in nature, and we often look at the coherence of natural systems when we work to create environments. Our challenge was to translate that into something that can be worn,” she went on.
