Since its launch in 2002, Zona Maco has been the leading art and design fair in Latin America. With its base in Mexico City, the fair not only brings together galleries from across Mexico, including cities such as Puebla, Guadalajara and Monterrey, but extends worldwide with galleries coming from Turkey, Spain and Romania, among other countries. In 2023, the fair will welcome 210 galleries from 26 countries, with events, talks and collaborations scattered throughout the city. Zona Maco founder, Zélika García, together with this year’s Artistic Director Juan Canela, who is also the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá, invited several international curators for the various sections of the fair including: Direlia Lazo for the Zona Maco Ejes section, which looks at hybrid and transdisciplinary projects, Estaban King for the modern art and historical section, Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, who curated the Zona Maco Sur section, which looks at the work of the Global South with 21 exhibitors, Cecilia León de la Barra, the Artistic Director of the Zona Maco Design platform, which this year will feature 30 exhibitors including a special Emergente section with a focus on work by young designers, Sara Herman, who curates the Zona Foto platform, and Alfonso Mirando for the section devoted to work made before 1960. The main fair was also curated by a selection committee of international gallerists and will feature 65 galleries.

In addition to the fair, there will be Zona Maco Conversation Program that will discuss current and relevant topics in the art industry, including an editorial component, and a program of parallel activities happening through the extended Zona Maco Art Week.

Now in its second-decade, Zona Maco continues to be as impactful and exciting as ever. They structure of the fair has been designed and developed by Tom Postma, based in the Netherlands, and Salinas Lasheras, based in Mexico, so as to create a more inviting and interactive experience.

Zona Maco is open to the public from February 8th through February 12th, 2023.
