Cappellini & Nendo celebrate 10 years of collaboration
To celebrate 10 years of collaboration, Cappellini and Japanese studio Nendo mounted an exhibition at Cappellini’s Paris showroom last week. Giulio Cappellini first discovered Oki Sato at the Salone del Mobile in 2004 and the two have since, developed many projects together and in turn forged a strong friendship. Oki Sato – who just received the “Creator of the Year” prize at Maison&Objet Paris 2015 – took this opportunity to celebrate this new accolade with Giulio Cappellini.
The exhibition, clad in black and white in contrast with a champagne backdrop, tells the story of Nendo and Cappellini’s relationship. The display particularly focuses on different design processes, always characterized by the lightness of form and irony of signs, completely defying gravity.
Nendo was founded by Oki Sato in 2002 with fifteen colleagues that meet during their studies. The idea of the name came from the Japanese term for ‘modelling clay.’ For Nendo, it means the combination of the creative power and the child-like surprise of simplicity. Cappellini was the first furniture brand that Nendo started working with, thanks to Giulio Cappellini’s ability to scout new talents. Over these past 10 years, Cappellini and Nendo have experimented with a variety of materials, always minimizing them to make simple designs – establishing their own design philosophy.
This exhibition – blvd Saint Germain 242 bis, just closed its doors since 2 days.
