TLmag is excited to announce this year’s Design Days Dubai – the first and only contemporary design fair in the Middle East – will run from 16 to 20 March. For its fourth edition, Design Days will welcome a record 44 exhibitors from 20 countries – bringing an impressive selection of original pieces by established and emerging designers to The Venue, a purpose-built exhibition space at the base of the iconic Burj Khalifa. Assembling some of the world’s best contemporary design galleries, such as Carpenters Workshop Gallery (Paris / London), Southern Guild (Cape Town), Artfactum (Beirut), and Broached Commissions (Melbourne), along with 11 first-time participants, including the regional premiere for David Gill Galleries (London) and Gallery FUMI (London), as well as Gallery ALL (Beijing / Los Angeles), Chamber NYC (New York), Galerie Silbereis (Paris) and designer and personality Fiona Barratt-Campbell Privé Collection (London). It is also important to notice that a host of leading exhibitors will be present to show work by leading designers, architects and craftspeople.

Posa by Carwan Gallery

1. Carwan Gallery from Beirut will present Posa by Massimo Faion – pieces that respond to the traditional falconry culture found in this region. The Italian designer was commissioned to create a beautiful yet practical perch for falcons to rest upon during training. The brass perch can be dismantled and adapted to suit different surfaces and environments.

Censorial Brushes by House of Today

2. Lebanese design foundation House of Today will debut a series of limited edition works under the heading Naked, Beyond the Social Mask which invites designers to work outside their comfort zone. For example, Naja El Zein’s Censorial Brushes collection features pieces made from unusual materials such as nails, eyelashes and feathers.

FBMI

3. Based in Abu Dhabi, FBMI (Fatema Bint Mohammed Initiative) blends entrepreneurship with sustainability. This initiative was established by her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Hohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahayan as way of offerimg employment and training to women in the weaving industry. The carpets produced through FBMI are made from Afghan wool and sold to support the project.
