Etage Projects at Biennale Interieur
Etage Projects took a slightly different approach to their presentation among the invited galleries at the Biennale Interieur. While most exhibitors at the fair focus on newness and novelty, the Copenhagen gallery opted to “relaunch” a collection by Fredrik Paulsen. The Swedish designer originally developed his signature staining technique during his studies at London’s Royal College of Art, in 2009 and 2010, presenting the “Prism” objects in 2012.
Paulsen refined his process for 2014’s “Spektrum” exhibition at Etage Projects, with a renewed focus on the triangular-prism form. Made in MDF and bedecked with industrial floor flakes to terrazo-like effect, the works offer a strong conrast to the polychromatic gradients of the original “Prisms”.
Even though they are just a few years old, the pieces can be considered anew in the ultra-contemporary context of the Biennale Interieur. The implicit critique of the obsession with novelty is all the more effective for its visual appeal.
Located at the Kortrijk Xpo, the Biennale Interieur is open to the public daily until 23 October 2016.
