Belgian fashion designer Gioia Seghers’ spring and summer collection 2016 calls for movement and explores the appeal of fluidity within structured frameworks. The collection, entitled Her Shifting Rhythm, is influenced by choreographer Lucinda Childs’ performance Dance, which was made in collaboration with artists Philip Glass and Sol LeWitt in 1979.

The sculptural and poetic collection evolves around the female form freely while emphasizing ease and lightness. The collection includes Seghers’ trademark eyelets and transparent materials. The layered looks of the summer collection consist of asymmetrical forms, garments that can be worn in more than one way; unstructured trenches easy to layer over soft separates of the collection, and tailored pants which give an illusion of a long skirt when worn across the waist.

Gioia Seghers graduated from renowned La Cambre Mode[s] in Brussels in 2012, and received several awards for her graduation collection. These awards include Dior, Weekend Fashion Awards, Libre Essentielle and RA prizes. In 2013, she launched her eponymous line, which focuses on refined high-end womenswear. •
