Opening on 16 April, Maniera 05 & 06 will exhibit (until 21 May 2016) limited edition furniture collections by Architecten de Vylder Vinck Taillieu and Studio Mumbai principal Bijoy Jain, respectively. Commissioned by Brussels-based collaborative design company, Maniera, each architectonic furniture series consists of four-to-eight pieces.

Maniera 05: Belgian studio Architecten de Vylder Vinck Taillieu (aDVVT) – Jan de Vyldr, Inge Vinck and Jo Taillieu –projects can be described as a counterbalance to the often rigid and cold structures of other architectural styles. Intuitiveness, poeticism and playfulness are central to their aesthetic.

Loyal to pre-existing constructs, their works are lyrical and often humorous understandings of architecture as bricolage, or constructions within constructions.

Maniera 06: Founded by Bijoy Jain in 2005, Indian architectural firm Studio Mumbai develops projects that cross-reference both Indian and Western cultures. Jain approaches design with a deep concern for craft, sustainability and community. His designs are highly contemporary and detailed and evoke a brilliance of tradition and modernity, using local resources and beautiful Indian craftsmanship.

Although different in approaches, both practices represent innovative ways of working. Presented as more than just furniture, the limited edition collections reflect a deliberate search for collisions between the realms of architecture, design and art.

Maniera 05 & 06: 16 April to 21 May 2016
