Pierre Léonforte is dedicating a full story about bicycles today and the contemporary trends. Talking about tokyobike is obviously corresponding to a tl.mag mood and attitude. To celebrate its opening, 6 artists have been invited for customizing 6 tokyobikes which will be on show from 17 May onwards in the Tokyobike’s new store 87-89 Tabernacle Street East London. Small and independant bicycle company, tokyobike is born in the Tokyo surburbs, in Yanaka. Riding a bike in Japan is a rising trend like in our continental environment which promotes more sport and a slow living. Like the mountain bike designed to climb the hills, the tokyobike is a more urban, smaller, 650 mm wheels with a slim steel frame which makes it easier to handle and to carry if it’s necessary within a car or a bus… It’s the design corresponding to an urban destination. That’s why the opening in London will also be coupled with the one in Berlin… and we hope to see more and more tokyobikes invading our European surroundings. The arty feel and touch of the bikes which will be displayed in London is a way to communicate on a made-to-measure bicycle which can be handled by all kind of people defending some street culture and and recognizing what a bike can value in terms of image, identity and media. No advertising on bikes but ART with A.Four / Lucas Price, Mike Guppy, Alex Daw, Soju Tanaka, Simon Memel and  Tom Pearson. Within tokyobike collection, I like the one called BISOU, it makes me think that a bike is also a way to discover the city but also to meet PEOPLE. You have the SINGLE SPEED, but also the SPORT style and finally the LIMITED edition which makes you even more unique.
