Traces, a Collection of Ceramics by Sophie Dries
Invited by Elena Caponi to exhibit at Henge during the Salone del Mobile, French architect and designer Sophie Dries has unveiled a new white ceramic vase, a set of three black pyrite vases, two brass vases and a candleholder. The “Traces” collection is a collaboration with ceramicist Thomas Vivant and metal artist Michael Moore. The title alludes to both the scoring process for making ceramics and historical reference points that range from primitive stoneware to the 80’s Memphis movement, namely Ettore Sottsass.
The stylistic contrast is complemented by a strong sense of materiality and the dialogue between metal and ceramic. Each vessel is produced by hand in an edition of eight pieces.
In her architectural practice, Dries’s portfolio includes exhibition designs for the Musée d’Orsay as well as high-end interiors and luxury apartments, both in her native Paris and abroad.
