Since 1966 the Town of Vallauris Golfe-Juan has organised a BIENNIAL with the aim of promoting and rewarding artistic creation in the field of ceramics. For this edition, it has been decided to use the expression “INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF VALLAURIS – CONTEMPORARY CREATION AND CERAMIC” to stress its intention of making ceramic creation part of the world of contemporary art.

The competition is intended to encourage and publicise European talents using the reputation of Vallauris, the town of ceramics, as a springboard facilitating their recognition around the world.

The event is organised by the Municipality of Vallauris Golfe-Juan.

There is also a competition for European ceramists that lead to an exhibition and maybe some prizes.
Three sections have been organised

  • –  Containers: Plastic reality or symbolic value (reflection / work on shape and decor).
  • –  Design: usual industrial or semi-industrial mass produced ceramics.
  • – Architectural, sculptural or conceptual ceramics (installations)

This year, the winner of the International Biennale of Ceramic of Vallauris 2014 in the “Containers” section is Ariane Prin for her amazing project “Water Cups Fountain“.

Watch now the video about it :

Also this year, the Swedish artist and designer, Gustaf Nordenskiöld explores various expressions of the ceramic medium. Far from conventional codes of Scandinavian ceramics, it goes beyond the traditional boundary between functional object and the single piece – he goes better to examine the witness on his perception of the object. Meanwhile, his work is also a questioning about the manufacturing process, sometimes revealing the final work as a memory of this production. During the Biennale, the public will discover some works expressing best his artistic approach.
