Jean-François Declercq’s Itinérance
At Art Elysées, the Atelier Jespers gallerist is presenting Itinérance 01, a selection of work from Belgian designers of different generations
Belgian collector Jean-François Declercq opened Atelier Jespers in 2015. This October, he’s having yet another opportunity to champion his country’s design: Itinérance 01, a selection of work from 13 designers hailing from different generations, on display at Paris’ Art Elysées.
His choices don’t focus on mass-produced industrial design, but instead on personal creations that are quite close to being considered conceptual art —and showcase the manual and intellectual craftsmanship of Belgian designers.
Some names have already been featured at Atelier Jespers and will be showing recent pieces at Itinérance 01. For example, DIM Atelier’s Vladimir Slavov is presenting Line 02, a solid brushed brass lamp; Ben Storms brought InVein, a marble, steel and leather mirror made of polished stainless steel. Koersel-born Casimir is presenting BRUG, a structure in solid oak, and Gérard Kuijpers is displaying his stone-based Turning Mirror.
Along with names like Nathalie Dewez —presenting her MOON lamp— are representatives of the new wave of Belgian design, such as the fabric-based Studio KRJST.
The roster is completed by Marteen de Ceulaer, Arno Declercq, Frederik Delbart, Damien Gernay, Pol Quadens and Nicolas Schuybroek.
