Seen at LDF: Timber Wave
tl.mag had the pleasure of attending the inauguration of the Timber Wave, an installation in American read oak for the London Design Festival, located at the entrance of the V&A Museum. The arch is a virtuoso piece of design and the result of an intense collaboration between Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A), engineering firm Arup, manufacturer Cowley Timberwork and the American Hardwood Export Council. Amanda Levete explains: “London Design Festival and the V&A are all about making things and showing these. The Timber Wave is an exercise in pushing the boundaries of making things in terms of design and material use. Besides that, we know that the entrance of the V&A has a grandeur that can be imposing and intimidating. The arch adds a sense of informality and playfulness to the building and highlights the temporary presence of the LDF in the museum.”
