Mudac is the Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts in Lausanne, Switzerland. Always on the lookout for new trends, the MUDAC wishes to be a place of exchanges and encounters between the fields of design, applied arts and contemporary art. Is the categorisation into major and minor arts inherited from 19th century art historians still pertinent today? Is it not the case that artists work for design companies? Do not designers have preoccupations similar to those of contemporary artists? The exhibitions organised by the MUDAC, whether thematic of monographic in nature, attempt to address these problems from different angles. With no hesitation about putting commercial objects and art objects in the same room, the MUDAC challenges the compartmentalisation of applied and fine art.
