TLmag 35 Extended: Tactile/Textile/Texture

In this TLmag online edition we have bundled the best articles about TLmag 35 Extended: Tactile/Textile/Texture

It has been nearly 2-years since the passing of legendary textile designer and connoisseur, Jack Lenor Larsen, whose legacy lives on at the LongHouse. For our S/S 2021 issue, Adrian Madlenar wrote about this passionate and endlessly curious artist who helped bring handwoven textiles into the forefront of art, design and manufacturing.

Belgian photographer Sebastien Van de Walle captured the powerful performance art movement in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo during a 2018 visit. There he met Percy Numbi and Flory Sinanduku who create wildly creative costumes out of the waste and trash that sits in a dried up river bed in a poor neighborhood in the city.

In 2021, Chiara Alessi spoke with Milan-based designer, Marialaura Irvine, about her use of embroidery as both an art form and creative process, and her role in Studio Irvine. Currently, Marialaura just completed an interiors project at the Circulo Filologico, in Milan, and is preparing to debut a new collection of rugs with Spazio Nobile at NOMAD Capri, in July. More on that to come.

For our S/S 2021 issue: TLmag35: Tactile, Textile, Texture, Costanza Rinaldi wrote about the groundbreaking career of Maria Lai, a Sardinian born artist who used poetry and art as means to better understand life and its complexities, particularly as an independent woman of her generation.
