Focus on Brussels

Forty-six art galleries open their doors this weekend to surprise visitors with the fourteenth edition of the Brussels Gallery Weekend.

Galerie Templon presented ‘Living Inside’, a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota. Featuring a group of new works, both intimate and delicate, the exhibition explored the notion of home and the fragmentation of our daily reality.

The Jewish Museum of Belgium presents ‘Ellis Island’, a group show exploring themes of exile and migration, and reflecting on spaces of dispersion, confinement, and wandering.

From May 29th until June 5th, visitors have the opportunity to embark on a delicious gastronomic journey with Brussels I Love You.

Following a two-year redevelopment process, Studiokhachatryan has announced the opening of their new design studio in Molenbeek, Brussels. The new space will showcase the practice of architectural designer Noro Khachatryan.

Spazio Nobile presents ‘Threads of Nature’, a group exhibition exploring and reflecting upon interactions between humans and the natural environment. Arranged together, the works provide a means of reconnection to the natural world; a visual and tactile reforming of the elements.

Koenraad Dedobbeleer’s 2019 show “Kunststoff, Gallery of Material Culture” at Wiels brought together 40 ‘living’ artworks to reflect upon Western culture, art history, and mythology. TLmag spoke with the Brussels-based artist about the exhibition and his practice.

Collaborator of our sister gallery Spazio Nobile, Matthias Kohn, developed a project about home, nature, and hospitality. In essence, the concept is based on the idea of placing furniture, most often used in private interior settings, thus adapted for this type of use, and suggesting comfort, in exterior settings, where the impact of the piece on the respective surroundings is allowed to develop fully.
